Organ Refurbishment at Union Chapel

First-time visitors to Union Chapel are often amazed by the architectural treasure they discover beyond the front doors. They find a beautiful Victorian Gothic interior with a soaring carved ceiling, richly polished wooden pews, impressive stone arches and exposed red brick walls. Yet within this stunning space lies a surprising secret. For one of the Chapel’s greatest jewels is almost completely concealed from view: its extraordinary mechanical pipe organ; hidden behind the central pulpit.

This project documented the refurbishment of this rare ‘Father Willis’ organ from dismantlement to full restoration and installation. It explores and celebrates a beautiful instrument, its revival and modern craftsmanship which made it possible for this gem to survive and bring joy to many generations to come.
